COVINGTON — Richard (Bert) Hughes, age 67, of Rossville, Ill., brother of McLain (Mac) Hughes of Covington Rt., died at about 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient since Sept. 16. He had been ill several months. He was born June 6, 1901, near Rossville, the son of Gilbert and Rhoda Saylro Hughes. He was married in Rossville Sept. 16, 1920 to Bertha May Ray, who survives. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Cox of Fowler; one son, Leland, of Rossville; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Breeden of Bloomfield, formerly of Covington, and Mrs. Goldie Ellis of Rossville; two brothers, Charles Hughes of Sheldon, Ill., and McLain Hughes of Covington; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mann's Chapel Church, south of Rossville. The Rev. Eugene Houpt officiated and burial was in Mann's Chapel Cemetery.  ---typed by Walt W
